Walker's Supply is dedicated
to bringing you, the customer, top quality products, while striving
to offer the best selection and price. Yet, we never sacrifice
customer service. Our staff is knowledgeable, courteous, and
willing to go that extra mile to ensure that your dream home
becomes a reality.
This business was started
in September 1947, by James Harris and Willard Walker as Walker-Harris Plumbing & Heating. Both Mr. Harris
and Mr. Walker were pipe fitters for the Aluminum Company. They started the
business working part-time and evenings while continuing to work at the
plant. After about two months, Mr. Harris decided to drop out of the partnership
and the name was changed to Walker Plumbing & Heating. Mr. Walker
continued to work at the plant and do plumbing on the side. In June, 1951, he quit
his job at the plant and devoted full time to his business.
As the business continued
to grow, Mr. Walker started selling plumbing items as well as continuing to do plumbing himself. In March 1956,
he decided to go full time in the supply business and incorporated as Walker's
Supply Company, Inc. The business operated this way until April 1975,
when the stock was sold to Wallace Hardware Company and certain Wallace
employees.
Since that time, Walker's
has continued to grow and prosper. A second branch was developed through the acquisition of Bradley's Plumbing &
Electric in Morristown in October 1994. A third branch was opened in Dandridge
in August
of 1997. Today Walker's employs some of the industries finest
people, and will do 5 times the amount of business being done when it was
acquired in 1975.
We are very proud of the history
of Walker's Supply Company and the many people over the years who helped it get this far. Although many
of them are not still with us, we want to thank each employee, each customer,
and each supplier who helped in whatever way to insure that Walker's Supply
Company is still here for us today.
